ABOUT US

The present setup of Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning come into being in October, 2007. However this organization by whatever name you will call it, dates back to the creation of North Western State in 1967.

The Ministry is saddled with the responsibilities of coordinating all economic activities (Programmes and Projects) of the state and interventions by Development Partners as well as Civil Society Organizations. This is achieved through generation of appropriate data from all sectors of the State that is further used for the preparation of Development Plans/Medium Term Plans and finally implemented annually as Budgets that consist of Capital and Re-current Expenditures. The Ministry also monitors and evaluates the implementation so as to ensure efficiency, equity and balanced economic growth and development.

The Ministry that effectively and efficiently coordinates all socio-economic development issues/matters of the state with optimal efficiency and prudent use of state scare resources for balanced and sustainable growth and development, that guarantees efficient service delivery with equitable distribution of evidence of democracy for the state citizens

The State Pivot Ministry that transparently and diligently mobilizes the state resources, prudently, judiciously allocated same among its competing entities for socio-economic development.

Statutory Functions

Preparation of Capital Budget, Preparation and Implementation of Developmental Plans, Coordination of all Development Programs in the State and Monitoring and Evaluation of all Government Policies, Programmes and Projects among other.

Departments

ECONOMIC PLANNING

Preparation and Implementation of Development Plans and Budget Preparation. Liaise with States, National and International Organizations on behalf of Sokoto State Government on matter relating to development Planning.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

Monitoring all Government Policies, Programmes and Projects.Liase with States, National and International Organizations on behalf of Sokoto State Governmet on Matters relating to Monitoring and Evaluations. Assess and Advise the Sate Government on Manpower requirements, Policy Formulations, Implementation and Evaluation.

BUDGET

Budget Preparation, Printing and Distribution of Annual Budget to all MDA's, Collection of monthly expenditure (current and capital) from MDAs to ensure compliance and Quarterly verification of votes and cash books to ensure compliance.

INTERNATIONL COOPERATION

Coordinate and oversee the planning and implementation of all development programmes in Sokoto State, including interventions and initiatives supported by development partners such as UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP and others. Facilitate alignment of these efforts with the State’s strategic goals while ensuring effective collaboration and sustainable impact across sectors.
